West Bengal Govt to add disaster management to school syllabus

   The state government plans to include disaster management in the school syllabus from the next academic year. Training to the teachers for disaster management has already started through Sarba Shiksha Abhijan.

   The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has already included it in the Class VIII and IX syllabus, but teaching of disaster management, both at the secondary or higher secondary level, has still  not been started in WBBSE.

   The Centre has sanctioned Rs 91 crore to modernise the department and purchase modern equipment.  He said three offices of the civil defence department will come up at Siliguri, Asansol and Kolkata very soon.Trained officers, along with modern instrument, will be kept at the offices round-the-clock in case of an emergency.
